We receive many donations from individuals, and want to say a public THANKS
Many of you keep giving each year, especially important for the scholarships, since these teens need support for each year they stay in school
The families want everyone to know they are amazed and humbled that so many people in so many places care about them
Outstanding Donor Stories
Here are some of the ways people have raised money for the Scholarship Program and the Community Projects.
Callum in California made an appeal to his parish, speaking at 8 masses one Sunday at St. Francis of Assisi, and raised $3,697.
Rotary Clubs stepped up: The Nome, Alaska group sent $1,000 for the water/electricity project. The Coal Creek Rotary Club of Colorado donated $250 of its local funds for literacy needs.
The Lafayette Public Library raised $4,000 as part of its Summer Reading Program to buy books for the Community Library and Elementary School. Library staff solicited publishers to donate several boxes of books to add to the collection.
People asked their employers for a matching donation, including Google and Microsoft, which doubled their money.
Others set up a recurring donation and continued giving throughout the year.
Businesses have adopted us as their particular cause, such as LMC Solutions in Denver - committed to improving literacy in Guatemala.
Sally and coworkers in England not only ran a half-marathon, but sent their pledges to us.
How about an Art Sale - Melissa and Laura in California raised $2,500 in one event.
Or a concert at your local hangout - Olivia in Pittsburgh pulled that one off.
Many people gave Guatemalan gift cards for Christmas, birthdays, or whenever, instead of scented candle or Target giftcards - a great idea for a gift that actually makes a difference.
Eric featured our projects on his blog and diverted birthday gifts to us; we know others asked the same for their birthdays or chrismas.
Lots of donations came in honor of someone else, especially from parents or relatives affected by their sons/daughters/parents' stories of these communities in Guatemala.
Anyone who spent time at La Escuela de la Montaņa knows how special a place it is, and how amazing the communities are in their endless work to ensure that their children have opportunities.
They won't give up - and are always thankful that so many people believe in them.
We thank you all for keeping that spirit going, and helping them achieve their dreams. Thanks to all of you!
