Proud! and Thankful! Scholars

High School Graduation (Diversificado)

Iris VioletaIn 2010, 9 scholarship students graduated from high school!

Each year there are more students who have been a part of the scholarship program for their entire middle and high school years.  We are finding those students to be very successful, and most likely to find jobs in their fields.

We think this is due to the amount of support they receive from their parents and the scholarship program - which supports them not only with money but with academic help and leadership training.

Iris Violeta and her mother walking up to the graduation stage; she is hoping to be a teacher in one of the area schools.

We're proud of these students and their families!

Our Program now has 12 graduates working in professional jobs within their area of focus -
an outstanding success rate.

82 of our current scholarship students applied for a scholarship for next year, wanting to continue their studies.  Each year we have a higher rate of continuation - a testament to how seriously these kids are taking their studies.

We also had 50 other teens apply for a first-time scholarship!
We can't accept any of them, unless we receive additional support this year from our donors.

Graduate Profiles
 Fausto

Fausto - graduate in accounting.  My mother helped organize a struggle on our finca when the workers weren't getting paid.  I want to make her proud of my accomplishments after what she sacrificed for me.
 Claudia

Claudia - graduate in accounting.  I live in Nuevo San Jose, my mother Victoria is one of the doņas who cooks for the Escuela students.  I hope to be able to attend the university in the future - although I realize I will have to work for awhile first.
 Iris Violeta

Iris Violeta  - I plan to be a teacher.  My parents were so proud of me at graduation, it was an amazing day.  I am excited about being able to teach more children so they can attend diversificado too.

 Student Dreams

Tito

Students in a writing workshop led by one of the Escuela's teachers - Tito - wrote about their personal dreams.  These are some of the dreams they shared at the end of the workshop.

(Tito is also pursuing his dreams - attending university evenings and weekends in order to get his degree in education, with plans to teach at the university level)

Beca BoysI like music and medicine but in the end I decided to study accountancy, which I am now finishing, this is my last year.  My biggest dream is to study social work at university, and also that Guatemala can become a free and democratic country, where there is no inequality based on color, language or race.

My dream is to reach my goals despite the obstacles in my path and
never let myself be defeated or give up.

I will become someone more important, I will work passionately

Our dreams as young people are important,
we have to struggle to achieve what we really want and to improve our lives day by day.

 Beca Girls

Since I was little I have always longed to be an infant school teacher.  Thanks to God and my parents and despite big things that happened in my family I continued studying through their efforts.
